First Christian Reformed Church

Crown Point, Indiana

Project Overview

First Cristian Reformed Church: As a more traditional church, they had many features that are more typical to a church facility. The original building, prior to the expansion, only had a 12’ wide narthex running the length of the sanctuary. This made it very encumbering for events and was very uninviting for people new to the church. The goal was to expand the narthex and make it feel much more welcoming and inviting to new people and existing members.

Cambridge worked with the leadership team at First CRC to design and build the roughly 25’ addition to the narthex and also vaulted the ceiling of the new and existing narthex to provide much more volume to the space. The large windows were designed with the cross in the center as a nice added feature. A coffee bar and full kitchenette and pantry were designed in to help serve coffee and treats for services and events. The new covered entry allowed for elderly to be dropped off at the door to help with inclement conditions or just for lack of mobility and the automatic two sets of double doors allowed for easy access into the space for all.
